ArtsAround Shares: Random Acts of Kindness February 17

Each year on February 17th, National Random Acts of Kindness Day grows in popularity. You will be reminded in the February Newsletter online at the ArtsAround site. However, this is a GREAT lead up and/or follow up to Valentine’s Day, by extending friendship and love to REAL action! It is celebrated by individuals, groups, and organizations nationwide to encourage acts of kindness. The movement of Random Acts of Kindness inspires people every day.

The idea behind this celebration is to make the world (including your school community) a little brighter and better through little and simple kind gestures, words, and actions. What if each class chose an area where they could participate in an act of kindness. (E, G: organizing K classes for a fun day; writing letters to the office/janitorial staff; singing a song to uplift spirits during announcements; doing research to discover neighbourhood (or beyond) seniors at home who might need a cheery card or quick phone call or even a visit etc.)

Here are a few other actions that can easily take place in your school community!

Here are a few ways to show kindness every day:

1 Focus on others. Kindness puts others at the center. …

2 Offer a helping hand. …

3 Be there to listen. …

4 Send care packages—no matter how small. …

5 Stay connected. …

6 Expect good things to happen and be a positive light. …

7 Smile at others. …

8 Compliment others.

9 Donate toys to a charity.

10 Offer to babysit!

Kindness is giving hope to those who think they are all alone in this world.”

“Kindness is seeing the best in others when they cannot see it in themselves. Kindness is something anyone can give without losing anything themselves.

Kindness is not what you do, but who you are.”
